Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Justice Moraes said the decision to arrest the elderly politician was a precautionary step after "new facts" were revealed.
This encompassed seeking to disable his tracking device and a summons to a public vigil that could facilitate a chance to flee".

Bolsonaro was convicted of heading a scheme aimed at maintaining his control after he was defeated in the presidential race to his ideological adversary, Lula.
Top judicial officials said that he was aware of a plan which included plans to murder Lula and his VP candidate, his vice-presidential candidate, and to imprison and murder Justice Moraes - the Supreme Court justice who has been managing Bolsonaro's trial.
